Paris Saint-Germain Stun Spurs to Win First UEFA Super Cup
Late goals from Lee Kang-In and Gonçalo Ramos complete dramatic comeback before PSG edge Tottenham on penalties.
On Wednesday, August 13, in Udine, Italy, last season’s UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain met UEFA Europa League champions Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Super Cup.
Tottenham appeared in full control after center-backs Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero scored to give Spurs a 2–0 lead. For much of the match, it seemed destined to be a Tottenham victory.
However, PSG refused to back down. In the 85th minute, midfielder Lee Kang-In struck to spark hope for the French champions. Then, deep into stoppage time, forward Gonçalo Ramos scored a dramatic equalizer in the 94th minute, sending the match to penalties.
In the shootout, PSG held their nerve, edging Tottenham 4–3 to secure their first-ever UEFA Super Cup title.
Elsewhere across Europe, the new domestic seasons are already underway. In the Premier League, Liverpool opened with a 4–2 victory over Bournemouth, while Ligue 1 saw Rennes defeat Marseille 1–0, and in La Liga, Rayo Vallecano beat Girona 3–1.
As of August 22, 2025, Manchester City sit top of the Premier League, AS Monaco lead Ligue 1, and Barcelona head the La Liga standings. The Bundesliga season is set to kick off with FC Bayern facing RB Leipzig, while Serie A begins the following day with Genoa vs. Lecce and Sassuolo vs. Napoli.
